What is KVMR's future on the internet?

In fact, what is the online future for any community radio station?

Consider this...

Global broadband penetration was at 3.4 % in 2004. By 2010, 75% Broadband Penetration is Likely, with 10% to 20% of Households Subscribing to Very High-Speed-Broadband;

Presently this next site indicates the world average for internet penetration is just under 24%;

The GAO references an OECD report showing US broadband penetration at just over 25%;

With such ubiquitous and growing broadband connectivity, here's a few of the things I expect to see in the next 2 to 3 years...

Lots of internet connected phones, radios, TVs & many other common household appliances.

We're going to see everything from wireless boomboxes, headphones & toasters to wireless video wall-screens with an array of wireless speakers, average cell phones w/ capabilities beyond today's iPhone to simple clock radios before too long.

And what is it we say?

"Where ever there's an internet connection there's KVMR!"

And that brings up my question to you!

What do you see when you think of what KVMR can offer at that internet connection?

Overlook any obstacles you may see, whether they're financial, technological or mystical. They're merely engineering challenges to solve.

Here's a few things I see for KVMR...
....or you can just skip to the bottom and add your own ideas & comments, where it says ... comments

Every show will be accessible as a live stream in several formats and qualities, from HD quality to dial-up mono, on any internet connected device.

Every show will be accessible to stream for at least 2 weeks after airing, with KVMR productions being accessible indefinitely, or however offered. This may change by 2016 when the current agreements with the NFCB, CPB & SoundExchange next expire.

KVMR's productions will become a growing catalog of news, public affairs programming and live music entertainment accessible on any internet connected device.

KVMR's broadcasters and staff will likewise be as accessible to each other as well as our audience and member-supporters.

KVMR will be a globally recognized source of high quality live concert broadcasts.

KVMR will be able to walk into any live music event, set up a couple of mics, possibly with video cameras & crew and be recording live and on the air from a laptop with a broadband connection.

With most laptops today being recording & broadcast studios capable, KVMR will have live and recorded programming produced from a variety of studios, from Truckee & Tahoe, to Sacramento, to Folsom, Rough & Ready, '... where ever there's an internet connection."

Playlists will mostly be created automatically and the music played, or the news or public affairs guest & subject info will be displayed on whatever player is playing KVMR.

Links will let listeners purchase and/or download copies of the shows from the artist, record companies or KVMR.

Broadcasters will be able to update their show info with guest names, links, etc. before, during or after a show, where ever there's an internet connection.

KVMR Members will have free access to KVMR's online catalog, non-members will have free access to KVMR's online catalog for a limited time.

KVMR listeners will be able to share suggestions, requests, their own music, ask questions of broadcasters before, during and after their shows; and broadcasters will be able to respond as they are able and desire.

KVMR will be able to broadcast on several internet only channels and 2 terrestrial broadcast channels.

KVMR's How To KVMR wiki will maintain official station policies and operational guidelines for all broadcast equipment & station procedures, and will be accessible online to all broadcasters, staff and volunteers.

KVMR's members, listeners and fans will become our best outreach team with their own accounts on FaceBook, Twitter, Digg, and other social networking sites. Listeners will be encouraged to share KVMR's program offerings by broadcasters and links associated with our online content.

KVMR's on-air underwriters will be displayed on connected media players during the times they sponsor, with links to their web sites.

KVMR's underwriters and sponsors will be featured through alphabetical & categorical listings, New & Featured Underwriters promo box, sponsored pages, special offerings, rotating banner ads as well as web traffic reports.

KVMR's Community Treasures will list on & off line contact information for all local & regional governmental agencies, non-profit organizations, public parks, historical points of interest, web cameras, etc.

Ok now it's your turn.

Please share your vision of KVMR's future online, not only from a listener or online visitor's point of view, but for what it could be like for members, broadcasters, staff or volunteers.

....and don't forget to stretch.
